Abstract
Carcinoma of the gastric stump is no longer the great rarity it was once considered to be. Up to 1958, approximately 200 cases had been reported in the world since Balfour, 1922, but many cases were reported recently.
Surely considered, carcionoma of the gastri stump ordinarily refer to a carcinoma occurring in the gastric remnant after resection for benign disease. To rule out the presence of unsus pected carcinoma, a time interval of at least 5 years should
be
elapsed since the original gastric resection.
Previous resection has most commonly been performed for peptic ulcer, more frequently duodenal than gastric.
The symptoms of a stump cancer are vague and resembled postgastrectomy symptoms and so the diagnosis is often delayed and the prognosis is poor, therefore, routine endoscopic follow up is suggested of all postgastrectomy paitents 15~20 years
after
operation.
We present 3 cases gastric stump cancer patients with review of literatures.
